Shih-Yin Wu, who double-majored in Psychology and Social Work, is the founder and director of Encounter Counseling Center in Taiwan. She has over 10 years of experience in animal-assisted therapy, integrating her approved therapy dogs, Mocha and Ivy, into her clinical work. She specializes in supporting children with Autism, ADHD, Selective Mutism, and school refusal, as well as adults with mental health challenges. Beyond individual counseling sessions, Shih-Yin is an experienced group facilitator who frequently leads AAPT therapeutic groups in diverse settings, including prisons, residential care institutions, and non-profit organizations.
She completed AAPT Level 1 and Level 2, as well as Instructor Training, between 2022 and 2023. In 2025, she and her collaborator were honored with the Kirrie’s Award for their contributions to the field, and she officially earned her AAPT certification in 2026.
She is actively involved in advancing AAPT practice and training in Taiwan and hopes to expand AAPT’s influence across Asia so that more therapists, clients, and animals can benefit. Shih-Yin places great importance on the human–animal bond, believing that a safe and trusting relationship is a key element in meaningful therapeutic change. She believes that within relaFonships grounded in love, respect, and understanding, both humans and animals can heal, grow, and truly be themselves.
