Rebecca is an assistant professor of social work at the University of Northern Iowa, where she teaches across both the undergraduate and trauma-informed specialization graduate programs. In addition to her primary job as a professor, Rebecca operates a small private therapy practice in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where she specializes in working with children, teens, and adults who have experienced trauma as well as current/former foster youth. Rebecca has extensive practice experience in play therapy and holds an Advanced Certification in Adlerian Play Therapy. She has served on the Iowa Association for Play Therapy executive board since 2020 as well as various committees for the Association for Play Therapy. Rebecca is a Certified Animal Assisted Play Therapist-Instructor.
Rebecca owns a small acreage for her many dogs, cats, chickens, and bees. She has plans to involve many of her dogs in her AAPT work depending on the fit for client and animal. Her spunky chihuahua, Camden, is approved as her AAPT animal partner. Rebecca enjoys training and when possible, competing, in dog sports with her dogs, including agility, nose work, and treibball.
