Rachel is a licensed clinical social worker and the owner of Rock Creek Forest Counseling, a private practice in Chevy Chase, Maryland, just outside Washington, DC. She is a Registered Play Therapist™, Certified Animal Assisted Play Therapist®, and Certified Synergetic Play Therapist™. Rachel has over 15 years of experience working with children, teens, and families from diverse racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. She started her career as a high school teacher, but seeing the large unmet need for mental health services in schools led her to social work. Prior to opening her own practice, Rachel provided mental health services in elementary, middle, and high schools in Chicago and DC. She has graduate degrees in both teaching and social work. Rachel specializes in working with kiddos with big feelings and big behaviors, and prefers a systems approach to therapy that emphasizes caregiver work as well. She loves to teach people about the nervous system, and she loves incorporating AAPT to help clients learn about their brain states and regulation.
Rachel’s AAPT approved animal partners are Rogue and Loki. Both are playful and affectionate golden retrievers, who will sit outside the therapy office door, (not so patiently) waiting to be invited in to work with clients! Rogue and Loki love showing off their trained skills, learning new ones, and getting tummy rubs.
