Pei-Jyun Chen is the founder and director of Encounter Counseling Center in Taiwan, and the first in the country to be certified as a Professional Practitioner of Animal Assisted Play Therapy® (IIAAPT). Since 2015, she has integrated therapy dogs into her clinical work with children, adolescents, and adults, focusing on developmental and emotional challenges.
Working alongside her approved therapy dogs Candle and Eevee, Pei-Jyun strives to create a healing environment that values welfare, choice, and respectful relationships between humans and animals. Inspired by the Animal Assisted Play Therapy® book in 2017, she completed AAPT Level 1 and 2 training, later joined the Instructor Training workshop, and officially earned her certification in 2025. That same year, she and her partner were honored with the Kirrie’s Award for their contributions to the field.
Pei-Jyun continues to promote Animal Assisted Interventions in Taiwan, with a strong emphasis on ethics, mutual well-being, and cultural sensitivity. She believes that honoring the autonomy of both humans and animals is the key to meaningful therapeutic change, and her practice reflects a commitment to joyful and reciprocal human-animal partnerships.
