Certified AAPT Professionals

Lisa Evans, RP, RPT-S, CAAPT

Lisa Evans is a Registered Psychologist, Registered Play Therapist Supervisor(RPT-S), Certified Animal Assisted Play Therapist, and is trained in the Neuro Sequential Model of Therapeutics. Lisa lives in the beautiful wilderness city of Whitehorse, in Yukon, Canada. She has been working with children and families for over 20 years, both as a school counsellor and in private practice.  She has spent much of her career helping children heal from trauma through play therapy…and now Animal Assisted Play Therapy. Lisa first experienced the therapeutic power of animals 10 years ago when she starting bringing her Labrador Retriever to school. Lisa’s current lovely canine therapy partner, Luna, is a F1 Labradoodle who came into her life in January, 2017.   Lisa began pursuing AAPT certification the following year.  Luna, since she was eight weeks old, has been a therapeutic partner with Lisa in her role as school counsellor at Takhini Elementary.  They work together teaching social skills in the classroom, and with children in individual and group play therapy sessions.  Luna also meets with children on the playground, and on “Luna walks,” offering connection, companionship and fun.  From her morning visits with the school administrative assistant to helping calm a dysregulated child, she makes a difference in people’s lives. Luna regularly brightens up someone’s day, and as proclaimed from a student, “Luna is a little piece of heaven.” Lisa and Luna also work together as therapy partners with children, in Lisa’s part-time private practice.  They spend their leisure time running, mountain biking, skiing, and hiking in the beautiful wilderness of the Yukon.
