Lauren Symmonds Aboussie is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Registered Play Therapist and Certified Animal Assisted Play Therapist. Lauren has been in the field of social work for 10 years and has worked as a children’s therapist for 6 years. Lauren currently works at Warm Springs Counseling Center in Boise, Idaho where she works with children of all ages and their families to help foster healthier relationships and communication patterns. Lauren is trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy and Animal Assisted Play Therapy®. Lauren uses a mix of art, play, bibliotherapy, story-telling and Animal Assisted Play Therapy® to help children feel empowered and loved.
Lauren is also on the board of a local non-profit, Mini Joys Inc., that works with mini horses to promote hope, joy and healing for children facing physical, mental or emotional challenges. Lauren is a native Idahoan and grew up on a farm in Boise where she learned a love for animals that she now incorporates into her work. When she and her AAPT-approved canine assistant, Stevie, are not in the office, they enjoy taking advantage of anything Idaho’s beautiful mountains and rivers have to offer including running, camping and backpacking.
