Janelle Alford is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Registered Play Therapist, and Certified Animal Assisted Play Therapist. She maintains a private practice in Arlington, TX. Janelle’s practice is geared towards providing counseling services to young children, with a focus on ages 2-5, as well as to clients of all ages who are recovering from issues related to complex trauma. Janelle’s primary approaches to work with children are Child-Centered Play Therapy and Animal Assisted Play Therapy®. Janelle completed additional training in expressive arts, biofeedback, and SMART (sensory based/trauma) and also incorporates these modalities into her work with clients. She is currently studying FirstPlay Kinesthetic Storytelling® and DRUMBEAT®.
Janelle’s AAPT-approved animal partners are Bosley, a Catahoula Leopard Dog mix and Kiki, a Siamese mix. Bosley is 9 years old and has been working with Janelle since 2013. Kiki is 11 years old and has been working with Janelle since 2012. Bosley and Kiki are both very easygoing, and their personalities fit well with a Child-Centered Play Therapy approach. Janelle is in the process of training a second potential canine therapy assistant, Tully.
