Dr. Jennifer Main is the owner of Playful Paws Play Therapy, a private practice in Oxford, Mississippi. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, Registered Play Therapist Supervisor, Certified Animal Assisted Play Therapist Supervisor, and an Instructor with the International Institute for Animal Assisted Play Therapy®. With over 18 years of experience, Dr. Main specializes in integrating her therapy dogs into non-directive, child-centered play therapy in ways that honor the child’s lead while ensuring ethical and developmentally appropriate animal involvement. She earned her doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of Mississippi, where her dissertation explored Child-Centered Canine-Assisted Play Therapy®
Dr. Main is actively involved in advancing the field through training, mentoring, and leadership. She serves on the AAPT International Certification Board, regularly presents at conferences, and has held leadership roles within the Mississippi Association for Play Therapy and the Mississippi Counseling Association. She currently works with Rook, an AAPT-approved therapy dog, and Jax, who is in training. As both an AAPT Instructor and Supervisor, Dr. Main is passionate about supporting clinicians in deepening their knowledge and skills in Animal Assisted Play Therapy® and play therapy. She provides supervision for professionals pursuing certification and loves being part of their growth journey.
