Catherine Binney, D.Clin.Psy; BSc (Hons); CPP-AAPT

Dr. Catherine Binney is the Director of Halcyon CIC, a private not-for-profit practice offering psychology and counselling to young people and families based in Worcestershire, UK. She is a Clinical Psychologist and Certified Professional Practitioner of Animal Assisted Play Therapy®, with over twenty-five years of clinical experience. She obtained her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The University of Oxford.

Catherine has additional training in a variety of evidence-based therapies including third wave CBT approaches (such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and DBT), Systemic approaches and EMDR.  Catherine worked for over 20 years for the NHS in CAMHS, Autism and Paediatrics (working with children with life limiting conditions and chronic illness).

Catherine loves to work creatively and playfully with a range of mental health issues and has a particular interest in working with OCD.  Catherine started her animal assisted therapy journey in 2017.  Her first dog to be incorporated into her therapy work, a golden retriever called Jofi, has helped Catherine to continue to develop and learn about the practice of Animal Assisted Play Therapy®.  Jofi is an AAPT-approved animal partner and loves to play tuggy and scent games and enjoys a good swim even if Catherine is not convinced it’s the best weather for it!

Catherine is a clinical supervisor on a UK Masters Degree course for AAT and enjoys teaching internationally as an accredited tutor for a large psychological therapies organisation.

Catherine and Jofi also live with 3 others dogs, Pepper (an African Grey Timneh parrot) and several other species!
